Considering the source, an artist living with mental illness, adds another layer to this piece. Cartoonish, humorous, heart-breaking and metaphorical- it’s like a scene from a Roald Dahl story that never was.

“I started being a field volunteer for Mystic Aquarium’s stranding program. Basically, if someone calls the aquarium to come save a marine mammal or turtle, they call me to check it out and verify whether it really needs immediate saving. I got called for a grey seal pup yesterday and it was pretty damn cute (and doing perfectly fine). It’s molting the white fluffy lanugo it was born with, so soon its coat will be all spotted and smooth (and not worth clubbing for) and it’s just been hangin’ out, rollin’ around and scratching its face with its flippers.”
